Welcome to in the meantime

in the meantime is an intimate 16 seater restaurant with short but fresh menu options, peaceful music, ceramics made by local artists, and comfortable chairs.

Please note, we do not have a liquor license yet, and all alcohol is served on a bring your own basis.

Dietary requirements
We can accommodate vegan, vegetarian and some other dietary requirements with limited options, but please note that we cannot accommodate gluten-free and allium (onion, garlic, spring onion etc.) and brassicaceae (cabbage, radish, canola etc.) family allergies. If any of your party has those allergies, please take our sincere apologies not to accommodate you.

Despite our best efforts, please be advised that food prepared here may contain milk, eggs, wheat, soybean, tree nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish and other allergens.
Are we halal friendly?
We received many different answers on what is acceptable. Please look through the following so that you can decide if you are happy to dine with us:
-
We have pork in the kitchen as pork is one of the main proteins in Korean cuisine.
-
We don't use separate cooking tools specifically for pork.
-
Our chicken is halal, while our beef is not.
-
Gochujang and other fermented products may contain very small amount of alcohol from natural fermentation processes.

Children
We do not have a separate children's menu, but children who are curious about new flavours may dine with us provided they are accompanied by an adult. Any parents/guardians looking to bring children are asked to watch over their young ones during their stay with us so that they are safe during their visit. If your children are not ready to join us yet, we will wait to meet them later in life.

Unfortunately metal chopsticks, glassware and other things we use are not all child-friendly. We cannot take any responsibility for any injuries sustained on our property. We may not set spoon rests or candles for the tables with younger guests for safety reasons.

We kindly request the help of any parents/guardians in allowing their fellow diners to enjoy the same peaceful experience as everyone who visit us.

Pet policy
The Palms Centre we are located at does not allow any pets except service animals.

Large groups and private functions
To ensure the quality of the experience for all of our guests, we recommend you to visit us in a small party like 2 to 4, maximum 6. We take single patrons, too. If you plan to share dishes, please note that it is easy to share most of dishes for a party of 2.

For a lunch/dinner for more than 4 persons (to a maximum of 6), please contact us by email or WhatsApp in advance. We only take one group larger than 4 per service. As we are a small team of one chef, one front of house and one cleaner, we need to arrange extra hands beforehand to ensure the service as smooth as possible. Please note there will be a 15% service charge for tables larger than 4 to cover the aforementioned extra hands.

If your party is larger than 6, we will only take reservations hiring the whole space ahead of time. We can comfortably accommodate 16, and at a maximum we can seat 18. We recommend a family-style sharing menu for a 2 hour lunch or 3 hour dinner. There will be a minimum charge of R5000.00 for lunch or R10,000.00 for dinner (regardless of headcount) for food and drinks, excluding the service charge of 15%.
Usually Fridays are booked quite in advance and we may not able to take a large bookings on Friday.

BYO
As we have not yet received our liquor license, alcohol is served at the table on a bring your own basis. If you bring any alcohol other than wine, please let us know beforehand, as we may not have enough beer/soju and/or other glasses. Until we receive our liquor license, we will keep the wine service very casual. You are more than welcome to pour it as you like.

The chef's recommended wines to pair with our food are produced by local, mostly independent, sometimes low intervention winemakers. Bone dry riesling, most varieties of chenin blanc and pinot noir and some cinsaults are our recommendations.

Cancellation/lateness policy
We set our booking system carefully to ensure our service is up to our standard. Please contact us as soon as possible in the event you are unable to make it to your reservation or will be late by more than 15 minutes. Please understand when you are late 30 minutes or more, that your table may experience little delays in service if the next seating time (usually 30 minutes after your booking) is fully booked and arrived on time.

We would appreciate being notified of cancellations or changes at least 24 hours in advance for our tasting menu or for bigger groups.
No shows impact the business greatly especially for a small restaurants like ourselves. We appreciate your cooperation.

If you are later than 30 minutes without prior notice or any communication, your table may be given to another party.

We love hearing your stories
However, our top priority is serving all the guests equally warmly and swiftly. Sometime we are asked very personal/private questions from guests - these questions are hard to answer quickly or sometimes are rather sensitive. We are fully focused on making sure everyone has a good experience with us. Please treat our team professionally while we try to make your time memorable within our capacity. Thank you for your consideration.
