What is tempeh?
Tempeh (pronounced tem-pay) is like tofu's cooler cousin from Indonesia. Tempeh is like the rockstar of plant-based proteins! Made from fermented soybeans, it's got a nutty flavor and a firm, meaty texture. Tempeh is not just healthy and protein-packed, but also a sustainable choice for the planet. Basically, it's the MVP of meat alternatives! Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or just curious, give it a try and see how it tempts your taste buds!
Who is hosting the workshop?
Frieda Olivia was born and raised in Indonesia and currently living in Cape Town.
She has been introducing vibrant taste of Indonesia through the Bali Food Truck since 2016 and started her tempeh venture through TempehSA during the first lockdown in 2020. Her dream is to provide everyone with access to a healthy and balanced lifestyle by offering them a wholesome alternative to meat or the opportunity to diversify their current plant-based diet with the incredible health benefits and delightful taste of Tempeh. “I envision Tempeh becoming as familiar and beloved as tofu in South Africa, and I'm here to share the wonders of this nutritious gem with you”

What to Expect?
Hands-On Experience: Get your hands dirty and make your own batch of tempeh.
Expert Guidance: Learn from the tempeh maker directly.

Tempeh snack and traditional welcome drink on arrival.
All ingredients and equipment are supplied.
Please bring a mini towel to take prepared tempeh home to ferment further 24-36 hours (the baby tempeh MUST stay warm until you got home).

Nasi Goreng with Indonesian style tempeh bites
